I hope that everyone has settled down from all that racing last year and is looking forward to the next. We’re already narrowing down the dates on a couple of events. The 4th Southern Comfort Classic in Asheville NC will most likely be held April 18-19, so keep that weekend open if you can. Already heard some rumors that Ernie Michaud (Fleet 60, EYC) is making a serious bid to wrestle the Friday darts title away from me.
There has also been some discussion on Nationals dates at Mohican next year. Let Marion Zaugg know if you have any strong feelings toward one week or another. Of course we’d like to maximize participation while working within the parameters of the Mohican Sailing Club’s schedule.
Jet #1159 – Reduced Price!
The board has decided to slash the asking price for the class boat (Jet #1159) to $7,500. This is quite a deal for a lightly used boat that comes with a trailer, good sails, and top/bottom covers. She was built in 2011 by Allen boat works and has been tuned nicely by the likes of national champions Bryan Parker and Marion Zaugg. Barbehenn won with #1159 in a big fleet at the Halloween Classic and she was 6th at the Lorain Nationals. Here’s a pretty flyer with more information about the boat:
If you don’t have $7,500 laying around, the class is willing to negotiate monthly payments. Just call Bryan Parker if you are interested.
Hansi is Back
Here’s a great story for the veterans of the class. A couple a weeks ago I received an email from a guy named John “Hans” Bonn, who unbeknownst to me won a number of Jet-14 Nationals back in the 1960s. He had sold #303 way back when he had to move to California and was now back east and wondering if anyone know of her whereabouts. Low and behold, #303 just happened to be in Marion’s barn in Ohio, recently renovated in 2000. And on top of that, it was for sale! Next thing I know, Hansi wants to purchase #303. No word yet if the transaction has been finalized, but it would be super cool to see Hansi back out there with all the young hot shots showing them a thing or two. Stay tuned!
That’s about it for now. Have a great holiday season!
