Nationals Registration Open

Registration for the 2018 Jet-14 Nationals at Lake Norman Yacht Club in Mooresville, NC is now open.  You are encouraged to register and pay electronically through the regatta network website.  Paper registration forms will be mailed next week.  Forms and other information are available at the regatta network website or at jet14.com.

In Jet racing this past weekend, nine Jets reported for action for the 61st NC Governors Cup regatta at Kerr Lake, NC.  Tom Grace and Paula Pacheco (Lake Norman Yacht Club) won the four race series in light air.  Read the summary and full results at jet14.com.

There were two other Jet regattas – Bridget Ireland took down the seven boat Cleveland Race Week fleet with a pair of bullets.  Check back for a summary and results on the website soon.  Our New Jersey friends also raced in the Wren Regatta at Hunterdon – we hope to post those results as well.

The first regatta of the Jet-14 season gets underway this weekend near Asheville, NC.  Weather is forecast to be ideal with sunny skies, temperatures in the mid-upper 60s, and winds in the 5-15 kt range.  Lenny Wells (#1130) will look to defend his title against an expected fleet of 10 boats which includes past champion Tom Grace/Paula Pacheco (#717).

The local ABC affiliate, WLOS, ran a series of segments on the regatta, the local club, and the new youth sailing program.  You’ll find some nice video of last year’s SCC regatta in there.

Results will be posted next week – stay tuned!

Halloween Classic Moved to Oct. 7-8

Mohican Sailing Club has announced a change of date for their premier Jet-14 regatta.  The Halloween Classic will now be held Saturday-Sunday, October 7-8.  Please change your travel plans and let Marion know you’ll be there.

The Jet-14 class annual meeting was held at Edgewater Yacht Club during Nationals.  A report will be published soon.

2017 Jet-14 Season Cranking Up

Hello everyone, I hope you had the chance to read the results from the 6th Southern Comfort Classic in the latest JetBlasts issue.  If you didn’t receive one in the mail, you can read/download the pdf here:

JetBlasts (1Q, 2017)

Lots of great pictures of the event posted on the SmugMug website.

A number of great events coming soon:

This weekend: Mohican Chiefs Regatta (Lucas, OH – contact Marion Zaugg 419-524-4109)

June 3-4: Dave Irey Memorial.  Boats from NJ and NC are already registered to join some Chesapeake Jets at last year’s Nationals venue.  Download the NOR and pre-register at the Regatta Network (Galesville, MD).

June 17-18: Cleveland Race Week.  I just counted 12 Jets already registered for this one!  What a great way to preview this year’s Nationals venue.  Register online.

June 17-18: Governor’s Cup/District III Championship (Henderson, NC).  Kerr Lake is straddles the NC/VA border and is a shortish drive for all of District III.  Best camping on the Jet circuit.  Register online.

See you on the water in the coming weeks!

2017 Membership – Join Now!

Jetters,

Hard to believe it is almost March already.  Fleet 65 down here in NC is busy welcoming two new members, Curtis Boyd (#203) and Don Read (#951) into the fold and we’re looking forward to seeing them out there racing in 6th Southern Comfort Classic April 29-30.

You probably have received an email from our esteemed class secretary that membership for the 2017 season is now open.  The easiest thing to do is to navigate to the membership page on our class website (https://www.jet14.com/membership), fill out the online form, and pay with your credit card online.  Or, you can go “Marion” and print out the membership form, fill it out, and mail it in with your payment.  Either way, do it!  Your membership supports the class association in a number of important ways.  You also will be assured to receive 1 year of JetBlasts in your mailbox.

I’ve heard that the regatta schedule is almost ready to go – look for it in the mail soon along with an invitation to join the class if you haven’t already.  Check out the website for recent updates, including minor changes to the measurement specifications, a Southern Comfort Classic preview, and a digital copy of the latest JetBlasts newsletter.

That’s all for now.  See you on the water soon.

Chris

Jet Blasts Return

Happy New Year Jet-14 Nation!

By now I hope that you have all received and read last year’s Jet Blasts issue, our first in quite some time.  I’ve attached the issue to this note in case you haven’t seen it.  This is a great resource to have around at the club or to take with you to One Design regattas.  If you need more copies, please contact Secretary Tiffany Parker – I’m sure there are some extras that she can mail you.  Or, feel free to print out the attached pdf document.

A great time was had by all at the 2016 Halloween Classic.

Another successful Halloween Classic is in the books.  In case you missed the classic summary and results, they are posted on the class website here.

2017 Jet-14 Regattas

The 2017 regatta schedule will be taking shape over the next few weeks so stay tuned for that.  We do know that the Southern Comfort Classic in Asheville, NC will be April 29-30 – a little later this year, so the weather should be plenty warm.  We usually get 10 boats for this one but should have more this year as there’s now 7 boats at Asheville Sailing Club alone ready to go.  Send me a note if you have any questions!

I’m working on a new Jet Blasts issue as we speak.  Look for it in your mailbox by early February.  Have a great start to the new year!

Chris
